Three adorable puppies were abandoned and left in a Detroit field to die slow, agonizing deaths. Fortunately, they were found in time, but because of the severe neglect they have suffered, their recovery is anticipated to be long and expensive.

Paws For Life Animal Rescue has stepped up to help, and are meeting the challenge of these three siblings just diagnosed with distemper – often a fatal disease in puppies.

According to Fox News, the puppies were found by a Good Samaritan who discovered the three tiny ones in a cardboard box on Sunday near E. Grand Blvd. and Kercheval. Detroit Animal Care and Control arrived first, and when they arrived the puppies had been covered with urine and feces. They were hypothermic, emaciated and suffering from infections all over their paws.

The puppies were transferred to Paws For Life Animal Rescue, but were too sick to be placed in foster homes and have been at the veterinarian hospital. While two of the puppies are slowly feeling better, the one dubbed Moe is not doing well. All have received blood transfusions; Moe needed three blood transfusions in under 10 hours.

These little guys need a break, and the rescue is asking for your help with donations to help with their expensive medical care.

Here are their latest updates:

“Larry is likely going to his foster home TODAY. He was taken off IV antibiotics and fluids because he no longer needs them! He will continue with oral antibiotics and is need of human touch and love to help him finish healing. Larry is a happy, spunky pup and is ready to get settled into his foster home until he’s ready to be adopted in approximately three weeks. Curly and Moe are STILL on IV fluids and broad spectrum antibiotics for the nasty infections their tiny bodies are trying to fight. They are going to require a LOT of care to help fight these infections on top of distemper.”

More updates to follow.
