A K9 with the Durham, North Carolina, Police Department is recovering after a suspect shot him in the face on Tuesday afternoon. According to multiple sources, K9 Daro was tracking the larceny suspect in the woods when the man opened fire with a handgun, striking the dog.

On Tuesday, the official Officer Daniels Facebook page provided information to followers about the shooting:

Roger was one of the first cops to follow me on vine years ago. We have since become great friends. Some of you may even know him from my twitch streams. Unfortunately, today his K9 was shot in the face while trying to apprehend a suspect. I know Roger will see this post and if you can let him know how much he and Daro are appreciated, that would be amazing

As reported by CBS 17 News, the police were trying to apprehend a man who was believed to be responsible for multiple larcenies; the man bolted into the woods after officers tried to make an arrest.

Daro, a four year veteran of the department, was taken to a veterinarian for emergency surgery – it has been reported that he is “doing well.”

Police were able to eventually find and arrest the suspect – that man’s identity has not yet been released.
