In Tate County, Mississippi, a juvenile who confessed to intentionally torturing and setting a dog on fire late last week will not face charges because of his age. On Wednesday afternoon, the Tate County Sheriff’s Office announced they had obtained a statement from the juvenile confessing to purposely setting the friendly dog “Buddy” on fire late last week.
According to the Tate County Sheriff’s Office Brad Lance, the child is under the age of 12, and in Mississippi he can not be charged with a crime. Had the juvenile been over 12-years-old, he would have faced felony animal cruelty punishable by up to three years in prison. Laws need to be changed.
One week ago, the friendly dog returned to his home with an extension cord around his neck; his face blackened and his fur burned and charred. Four days later, the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person exceeded $10,000.
According to the Tunica Humane Society, there will be no reward paid in Buddy’s case. There were no tips that led to the end result. The case was solved by the Tate County Sheriff’s Office. Money for the reward has never been collected – only pledges. No one will profit from this senseless act of cruelty.
And from now on, the rescue organization wants to concentrate on Buddy’s recovery. It is possible that Buddy’s eyes are still intact, although he may have suffered damage to his eyelids, lower lids and tear ducts. Those injuries are able to be surgically corrected.
He will be receiving skin grafts from North Atlantic cod fish which has been very successful in treating both humans and animals. Buddy suffers from third and fourth-degree burns on his face, second-degree burns in his ears, and other burns around his eyes.

Beyond disgusting!!! This kid is headed down the path to “serial killer”……. This useless monster needs serious counseling and/or to be locked up forever. That a young kid could be so cruel shows that they are already a sociopath…….
I wonder if Buddy’s family can sue the parents of this monster kid for “negligent parenting”???
I can’t even begin to imagine the pain and suffering of Buddy and his family……. Also, the veterinary services’ costs must be quite expensive. Most states will hold the parents of minors financially responsible for the damages their minor children cause…… this situation should be no different….. those parents are financially responsible for Buddy’s veterinary services’ costs and should be made to pay up…….
Buddy’s family should hire an attorney to go after them…… with court orders from a judge, wages can be garnished, liens can be placed on homes………
