A skeletal dog is fighting for survival after being taken in by Pawsitive Tails Dog Rescue. According to the rescue group, the severely emaciated dog, dubbed Brighe (Irish for “strength and power”), appears to have been intentionally starved.
On Sunday, the rescue group explained:
Someone knows what happened to her, and someone did this to her intentionally. Someone walked by her every day and intentionally chose to starve her. This is not a stray who’s been on her own for too long, even stray dogs have the ability to find food This was done to her for reasons we can NEVER comprehend.
According to the animal welfare agency, Brighe’s owners said that their dog ran away in October 2020. The organization explains how she came to be in their care:
By a stroke of luck, they were reunited with her on Friday, and she looked like this. Today, she was unable to stand or walk on her own. The owners surrendered her to us today, unable to keep her or provide for her care.
Brighe weighs just 17 pounds – she should weigh 50. The most recent update on her condition was posted today:
3/8 the vets called and said that Brighe is stable and holding her own. They were able to get a fecal and will test for parasites, and her bloodwork is poor, but not as bad as they expected. She is not wanting to eat today though, which may be because her stomach is upset at having food yesterday after not having anything for SO long.
