In Kansas City, a stray Shih Tzu is feeling not only relieved after his rescuers removed seven pounds of matter fur from his body, but is surely feeling the love from social media after his photos went viral.

At the KC Pet Project, 11-year-old Simon arrived as a stray and was one of the worst matted dogs the Kansas City, MO rescue organization had ever seen.

“We can only guess how long it took to get in this condition. One thing we know for sure is that life is about to get so much better for this boy, who we’re calling Simon,” the rescue posted on their Facebook page.

On the rescue’s Instagram page, a video captured the scene as seven pounds of matted fur was carefully shaved from the dog’s 20-pound body when he arrived at the rescue. Fortunately his skin was in fairly good condition, considering he was quite skinny and infested with fleas. Simon will, however require dental surgery.

“He’s actually almost learning how to walk again, too. You can tell he’s been so weighed down for so long.”

  1. I don’t understand how or why someone would let their furbaby get into this situation……. Almost 30% of the body weight was matted hair…….

This is criminal neglect….. that poor precious little treasure could easily have been infected with all types of parasites that might have killed him…..

I suspect that he is not chipped or altered. Probably will never find the original owner(s) who neglected him??? saddest thing is that they can do this to another innocent furbaby…….

I hope Simon is rehomed ASAP into a loving furever family where he will be treated as a beloved family member!!!

  2. Whoa! I’m surprised all that fur didn’t cut off the circulation to his limbs. I’ve seen dogs lose a leg with less matting. He’s one very lucky dog.
