A dog in Boone County, West Virginia, is recovering after someone shot him with a shotgun. The dog was found in a ditch by good Samaritans who were able to get him to a veterinarian. The BARC Boone Animal Rescue Coalition has stated that it was initially believed that the dog had been attacked by another animal.

But a veterinary exam and x-rays revealed the truth. The animal welfare agency stated:

At first it appeared that he may have been attacked by another animal. X-Rays showed otherwise – he was SHOT with a shotgun! He is literally peppered inside with buckshot. We are thankful to the Good Samaritans with picked him up, kept him overnight and got him to the vet for us.

Adding:

We are consulting with multiple vets to determine the best approach for his treatment and if surgery is an option. He can move his legs but doesn’t want to even sit up. The entrance wound is infected.
