Days ago, a deer hunter found a horse, buried up to its neck in mud, deep in the woods of Jackson Township, New Jersey. According to Millstone Township Uniformed Firefighters, the horse had disappeared from a farm in Millstone township on Friday.

A team of rescuers was dispatched to save the trapped horse, but freeing him would be no easy task. The Millstone Township Uniformed Firefighters explained:

Based on the mud and terrain there was no access for heavy equipment in the woods to assist with the rescue. Firefighters worked alongside the horse owners, horse trainers, a veterinarian and good samaritans using shovels, axes, straps and a grip hoist to get the horse free from the mud.

After being freed, the horse was led out of the woods on a path created with rubber mats, which kept it from sinking again.

The firefighters said:

Thanks to great team work the horse was brought to safety and transported for further care. Local 4388 members are always happy to work with our neighboring agencies.
