In an appalling display of animal cruelty in India, a social media user on Twitter posted a disturbing video of an elephant being chased away by a group of local citizens. The video, tweeted by Indian Forest Services Officer Sudha Raman, began with the title
“No words!! Wondering who is the animal here.”
The elephant can be seen running away after being chased by a crowd of people who are yelling and laughing. Twitter followers were appalled at the cruelty towards the elephant. These are the very animals who used to live in these areas until humans chopped away at the forests and areas where these animals had roamed for hundreds of years.
“Such a shame … people harassing such innocent an innocent elephant for fun… it hurts to watch this … we as a society need to do so much to avoid such incidents,” one twitter follower wrote.
It is not known what happened to the elephant and if it was rescued. Sadly, the video proves we can do better.
