Moe Wood had been so desperate to find her missing dog she even started a Facebook page to help. Have You Seen Wilf? Missing Yarrow Valley PR7 garnered more than six thousand followers hoping to find clues about the missing four-year-old border terrier missing for 13 days.

Sadly, Moe announced on Facebook Wednesday afternoon that Wilf’s lifeless body had been discovered beside the River Yarrow in Chorley.

“He must have drowned the day he went into the river. I found him at 13.15. He had washed up downstream in the middle of the river amongst a lot of debris.”

Volunteers had helped organize searches using posters and drones hoping to catch sight of the sweet dog who slept with his family every night.

“A huge thank you to everyone who helped in the search for Wilf. Yet again, group members turned up for searches, delivered leaflets, offered words of encouragement and shared the hell out of every post that was made. The support has been nothing short of amazing. We have worked with lots of owners but we have been seriously astounded at the determination Wilf’s devastated family has shown to find him. He will be missed beyond words. Our hearts go out to Lauren and Moe. You did your boy proud and although it wasn’t the outcome we wanted, we are glad you have him home.”

Both Moe and her daughter Lauren retrieved the body of their precious pet and took him to Leyland Pet Cemetery.

Rest in peace little one.
