A Colorado rescue agency has shared a heartbreaking update on a former death row dog who is believed to have been used as a “bait dog” for dog-fighting. The dog, a pit bull named Ryan, skirted death at an open-intake animal control agency in Texas and found a home with his foster family, but that home has fallen through.

On Thursday, Dog Over Dogs writes of Ryan’s need for urgent assistance:

We have heartbreaking news after just posting Ryan’s update – he is being returned- and we need a foster, or foster to adopter, ASAP😭⚠️

Recounting some of Ryan’s sad past:

Ryan was used as a bait dog, then ended up at a kill shelter in Texas next on the euthanasia list. His story has gone viral, so my heart is breaking as I’m writing this ..💔

According to the rescue group, things went awry when Ryan’s family adopted a puppy. Though things went well initially, something changed and Ryan attacked the pup, causing serious injury. The rescue group writes:

The family has now decided to return Ryan. Ryan has been through SO MUCH -and despite him getting along with other dogs previously- he needs & deserves ALL the love and attention from his future family.

The rescue agency outlines the home that Ryan needs:

Ryan is SO deserving of a loving foster /forever home. This dog seriously deserves the world😢PLEASE we are begging the public to share so we can find this dog his dream home! We are looking for a home that is dedicated to Ryan- with no young children (they can be scary with their quick movements and loudness) and no other dogs to start, unless a home is willing to provide management- until he can fully decompress. He NEEDS a patient home. Ryan is a bully mix that needs a backyard, so unfortunately no apartments please.

Adding:

Do Over Dogs will supply training, and all supplies for foster or foster to adopter. Fostering is 100% free. Please submit a foster application on our website if you can help 💔

Ryan is located in Colorado. You can find an adoption application here.

  1. I hope Ryan can go to a home where he will be the only furbaby.
Poor guy needs time to decompress and fully adapt to a new situation…….
I feel badly for him……. he’s had such a difficult life…… he deserves to be in a loving furever family where he will be treated as a beloved family member.
