In Los Angeles, California a text message to A Purposeful Rescue on Thursday foreshadowed an unimaginable situation where a seven-year-old dog was seen being set on fire. Tragically, Eponine died this morning during her second day of dialysis treatment.

According to the rescue organization, Eponine had been through “some darkness.” She had been at the local shelter in 2017, but was redeemed by her owner. On Sunday, she was brought into the shelter by an officer who had been called about a situation – a dog had been set on fire. She needed more help than the shelter could provide, and was allowed to be transferred to an emergency veterinarian hospital.

She had burns all over her body. Every single part of her hurt; inside her mouth, ears, paws, stomach, back, neck and nose.

The rescue was next able to transfer Eponine to an emergency veterinarian hospital where she was given life-saving treatments. In order to maximize her chances for survival, she would also receive dialysis.

“We knew there were risks. We knew how terribly critical she was that she required specialists from 4 different departments consulting on her care. She took a breath and off she went. On her moon launch where she is safe and new again. The impact she made can’t really be put into words. We are devastated – and we know you are too.”

A Purposeful Rescue

The Los Angeles Police Department has launched an investigation, and everyone promises to do everything possible to find the individual who committed such an atrocious act to an innocent dog. A reward will be offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the responsible person.

Rest in peace Eponine.
