The Animal Rescue Corps received a request for help on Friday from Pointe Coupee Parish Animal Services in Louisiana with a neglect and hoarding case. Their mission was to extract the remaining animals and assist with medical and care needs.
Upon arrival, the conditions of the home were shocking and among the worst volunteers of the non-profit animal welfare organization had ever seen. One of the dogs, Benny had been living in the feces and waste found everywhere in the house tamped down to a foot-and-a-half deep in places. The mountains of waste and debris could be found in the sinks, mounded on the countertops and coating the floors.
The acrid smell filled the air and no one knows how long Benny walked on top of the piles of feces, what he slept upon or where and what he even ate. Even if someone had been living in the house although it was unfit for any life, it had been home to the dozens of animals left behind.
Benny was one of 17 dogs the Animal Rescue Corps is now caring for until custody is granted, and these are mostly the ones most in need of medical help and treatment. In addition, the organization has also taken on 23 other dogs from overburdened surrounding shelters.
