The Downey Animal Shelter in California has issued a plea for help with a 14-year-old Chow Chow in desperate need of rescue. On April 5, his family surrendered him after his owner died. The family could not care for Oso because of his health status and condition.
His advocate tells this poor boy’s story:
“He is now lying alone, scared and depressed, in the Downey LA County kill shelter waiting to be euthanized unless we can find someone to save and love on him.The shelter describes Oso as “so docile” despite his pain, he is very tolerant while being treated for his ear infection. He needs help standing up and has trouble walking.“ He is 79 lbs and listed as a 14 year old chow mix and has a black tongue, but likely has a second larger breed in him such as German shepherd or retriever.Oso does have stiff legs and walks slowly, but would likely benefit from some meds for age related arthritis. Unfortunately, Oso may not have been given any vetting in years due his fluffy big matted coat, but he has been neutered in the past.We are desperately looking for a loving home forever or foster or good home for this older gentleman.”
“Oso is a 14 year old male neutered Chow who presented to us with a right ear infection, arthritic hindlimbs, matted coat, periodontal disease, old age changes to his eyes (lenticular sclerosis) and a small wart on his right eye. Oso has a hard time standing up and walking and this is worsened in the Care Center environment. We recommend Oso be brought to a vet once adopted/rescued for further diagnostics and treatment options.”
During Oso’s examination and treatment for his ear infection, the dog remained docile and sweet. Our hearts go out for this senior who must be so confused and saddened to be left alone without the family he had known for so many years.
