A dog is alive, and enjoying a new life, thanks to a good Samaritan who noticed his suffering and stepped in to help. The shepherd mix, dubbed Arnold, was found on Route 66 in the East Mountains of New Mexico. Jessica Whittet is Arnold’s hero – she told KRQE News:
“I pulled over and he was swaying back and forth and so I got down on my hands and knees and I was like come here, come here and he came to me and I saw how badly injured he was.”
Arnold wound up at Animal Humane NM where the veterinary team determined that his severe wounds were human inflicted. Val Wilson, the Director of Veterinary Operations for the animal welfare agency said:
“He had multiple lacerations across his head shoulders and ribs, we believe those lacerations were human inflicted.”
On Thursday, Animal Humane announced that the abused pup has found a new home:
During these difficult moments, our faith in humanity is restored over & over again by the kindness of our community. We wholeheartly (sic) thank everyone who has liked, shared or donated, or continues to support our efforts, on behalf of Arnold. We are happy to report that he has already found his forever home, yet his steadfast resilience has been our guiding light through this entire experience.
Investigation
Anyone with information is asked to call the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, which is currently investigating the cruelty case. Whoever is responsible could be facing a felony extreme animal cruelty charge. Tips should be phoned to: 505-975-1500.
