Meet Cooper – a furry companion who loves the outdoors and will raise his paw to take an afternoon hike with guests at Vermont’s Manchester Village -Equinox Golf Resort & Spa.

Cooper gets the honorary title of “Chief Happiness Officer” and became part of the staff in 2020 because the five-year-old dog “just makes people happy” according to the humans at the resort. His job description is identified as a “Golden Hike” and during the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons, Cooper is busy delivering happiness.

The Equinox’ general manager, Jay Sheldon, is Cooper’s human, and if a guest would like to take a hike with the sweet pup, of course, it’s all complimentary. And if guests want to bring their own furry friends, they are also encouraged as Cooper is one very friendly canine.

As for Cooper on the trail, he is very familiar with the trail and doesn’t need to be leashed; if needed he can lead the way. He often can be seen around the resort by Jay’s side and loves to meet and greet new guests arriving in the afternoon as they enjoy a glass of wine; Cooper prefers water. Children of guests can also take home a plush pup toy version of Cooper.

The resort has been around for the last 250 years and has hosted four Presidents, was a meeting site for Revolutionary War soldiers and is a historic landmark since the 1970s. The hotel boasts an 18-hole golf course, three tennis courts, a spa, heated indoor pool and five restaurants and bars.
