A Holiday, Florida resident jumped in a pond and wrestled an alligator starting with sticking his finger into the reptile’s eye in order to save his puppy from certain death.
According to AbcNews, Mike McCoy had been walking his eight-month-old Labrador retriever, Jake, when an alligator suddenly jumped out of a nearby pond and pulled the puppy underwater. McCoy acted quickly and jumped into the water to fight the alligator.
“I got around, thumbed him in the eye, picked him out of the water so he couldn’t get anywhere until he let the dog go…”
McCoy added he had “no hesitation” about jumping in to save his dog. The alligator was estimated to be between seven and nine feet long.
Neither McCoy nor Jake were seriously injured, but both required stitches and are on the mend.
If you are concerned about an alligator, call FWC’s Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-392-4286. The FWC will dispatch one of its contracted nuisance alligator trappers to resolve the situation.
