A man from New Smyrna Beach was arrested on Tuesday and charged with felony animal cruelty after cell phone video showed the man kicking and dragging a malamute-mix puppy.

According to Click Orlando, Danny Brandner, 37, was captured on video outside of the Venetian Bay Apartments kicking, dragging, jerking the dog by his collar and leash and hitting the pup. The neighbor who recorded the disturbing incident was appalled by the man’s treatment of the puppy.

The puppy could be heard yelping in fright and pain during the two-minute video. The neighbor, who asked not to be identified, stated Brandner was a bigger man than him, and there was no way to know if the man had been carrying a gun.

When authorities arrived, Brandner denied hurting the dog and told authorities he had purchased the dog in May 2021 as an emotional support animal.

The puppy is currently in the care of the Southeast Volusia Humane Society. He is being examined by a veterinarian.

This POS does not deserve a service animal. He deserves to be locked up forever (& lose the keys)!!!
