A 21-year-old Florida man was arrested for allegedly beating a dog to death with a baseball bat. According to multiple sources, the accused is identified as Jacob Thornton of Nassau County. Thornton is accused of launching the fatal attack after the dog, a pit bull, fatally attacked a young puppy inside of a home in Callahan.
CBS News reports that Thornton used a baseball bat, fitted with a protruding screw to kill the dog, and that he had screamed, ” you don’t have to worry anymore because the dog is dead” after killing the dog. According to First Coast News, the owner of both the pit bull, and the young pup, was in the shower when the attack happened.
Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper commented on the case:
When something like this happens and someone just beats a dog to death in the head with a bat, that person is sick, and they need help. Hopefully this person will get the help he needs, and hopefully nothing like this will happen again.”
Thornton is facing a charge of felony cruelty to animals.
