In Franklin County, Kentucky, police have launched an investigation for a woman seen on surveillance video abandoning nine puppies outside of an animal rescue organization on Saturday night in frigid conditions. The puppies spent about 9 hours sitting outside in bitterly cold weather. They appear to have been only hours old at the time they were abandoned; sadly five of the puppies have since died.

According to LIFE House for Animals in Frankfort, the puppies were left on the front porch in a basket which had a blanket inside, but there was no other protection from the 20 degree temperature.

“Thanks to the quick thinking and immediate efforts of volunteers we got all the pups warmed up and miraculously found them to be still alive, and started them on formula. We then began to search for a nursing mama dog to foster them, and located one in Amelia, OH with All Dogs Come From Heaven Rescue.

. Volunteers transported the puppies to Ohio Sunday afternoon and thankfully, the foster mama let the newcomers latch on and begin to feed.”

Five of the puppies have since died, two puppies remain with the foster mother dog and are receiving supplemental feedings, and the other two are in an incubator and being tube-fed. All of the tiny survivors are fighting for their lives.
