On Tuesday evening, a fire broke out in a home on Gold Avenue in Baltimore City. Everyone evacuated the burning building, but Pecan, the cat was stuck inside. As firemen entered the burning home, they heard the frightened kitty meow, and moments later rescuers found him nearly lifeless; his body covered in soot with insulation melted into the fur on his back.
Firemen quickly carried Pecan out of the home to safety and administered oxygen. He was transported to the emergency room, and BARCS Animal Shelter and a partner Franky Fund clinic began treating the cat immediately.
For days, Pecan received around-the-clock treatment to help him breathe along with being administered intravenous fluids for both pain and nourishment.
Sadly, his family has not been located or has anyone been able to contact them. Anyone with information about this situation is asked to contact the shelter.
Pecan will be cared, even if his owners are not found. When he is feeling better and ready to find a new family to love him, he will be available for adoption. You are safe now Pecan.
