On Friday night, firefighters with the Seattle Fire Department responded to a fire in the Magnolia district. Crews that were searching the interior of the home found a dog who needed help. The fire department writes:

When crews searched the home, they found this pup inside and brought him outside to safety. He was initially in poor condition, but firefighters and medics were able to resuscitate him before he was brought to a nearby emergency vet.

The fire department initially expressed joy that the dog, a golden doodle named Mario, was “doing much better.” But a day later, they shared a heartbreaking update, writing:

9/5 UPDATE: we learned this morning that after showing a strong recovery yesterday, Mario passed away this morning. We are glad he got to spend one more day with his owners but are heartbroken for their family’s loss. 💔

Rest in peace Mario. Thanks to the firefighters who did all they could to try and save his life.
