Family told shelter they were coming to get their dog but nobody showed – now Honey just wants to disappear

In December, a Texas animal shelter took in a beautiful German shepherd named Honey. The dog was well-behaved and appeared to be house-trained…in other words, she had the hallmark attributes of a pet with an owner. According to the Pasadena Animal Shelter, the dog’s owners called to tell them that they were coming to get their pet (Honey) but nobody ever showed up.

In a Facebook post, the animal welfare agency explains:

This kind German Shepherd has been with us since mid December. With her nice manners and apparent house training, we could tell right away that she was an owned dog. So we were ridiculously happy when her family called and made an appointment to come pick up Honey.

Stating:

Only her family never showed. We contacted them again because we figured something must have happened. Who would leave a dog as sweet as Honey behind?

And acknowledging that they know that nobody is coming to take Honey home. Explaining the emotional toll that shelter life is taking on this sweet dog:

Worse still, Honey knows her family is not coming. She seems to be losing hope of ever leaving. She doesn’t stand and wag anymore; she just presses herself against the cinder block wall as the dogs around her bark and bark.

Honey is vaccinated, fixed, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $20 for a forever family who will love her as she deserves.
