A dog belonging to a family in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has been shot with a pellet gun repeatedly by a man living next door, but the man responsible for the cruel acts has not been arrested or charged. As reported by KRQE News, the cruelty was discovered thanks to Ring surveillance video which captured David Wiegand standing at the fence and shooting the Baca family’s dog, Rocket.
Javier Baca tells the news agency how he discovered what was happening to his dog:
I was helping my in-law move and then I got a call from my wife saying that the neighbor shot the dog because she heard the dog crying so she reviewed the camera and saw that he shot the dog. I called him and he said it wasn’t him, it was some kids throwing stuff in our yard, so I said, ‘we have you on video.’”
After Baca reviewed the video footage, he learned that his dog had been targeted by Wiegand multiple times over the past several months. When questioned, the man finally admitted that he had been shooting Rocket with the pellet gun – he blames his actions on the dog’s “yipping.”
The police and animal control agency are aware of what’s going on, buy Wiegand has not been arrested or charged – even with his confession and the video footage. Baca tells KRQE:
We’ve been with Animal Welfare and we’ve been talking with them and they were up in contact with us until about two months ago,” said Baca. “We started calling 311 because we weren’t hearing nothing from them and then they just told us that they’re not moving forward anymore.”
