An Erie man was arraigned in the Erie 5th Ward District Court on Friday for two third-degree felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty and misdemeanor counts of cruelty and neglect to animals. Jeremy M. Pursell. was in the Erie County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bond on Monday.
According to GoErie, Pursellm 48, is alleged to have stabbed an eight-year-old Labrador retriever mix, named Blue, on the back of the neck on October 7, 2020. Blue’s owner told investigators with the Erie Humane Society that Pursell had previously told her it was time to get a new puppy and would blow Blue’s “brains out” because “he was getting too old.”
Pursell and the dog’s owner had been in a previous relationship.
The woman later said she heard Blue whimpering outside and found her dog with blood over him. She asked Pursell what happened to her dog and Pursell alleged asked, “He’s not dead yet?” The woman then fled with Blue and another dog after Pursell told her he was going to “finish the job.”
Blue was taken to an animal hospital for emergency treatment and treated for his injuries.
