Entire litter of seriously ill puppies found in duffel bag along railroad tracks

A litter of seven seriously ill puppies had been stuffed into a duffel bag and abandoned along the railroad tracks in Wilmer, Texas on Saturday night. Temperatures outside were in the low 40s. A kind worker found them and took them home, but was unable to keep them and provide the medical care they needed.

Dallas Dog Rescue. Rehab.Reform picked up the puppies, and within a short time the little ones began to have seizures. Emergency Animal Hospital of Collin County and veterinarians and their staff jumped in to help. They searched for all the medications needed to start the medical protocol – at the very least to give the little ones a fighting chance.

The following video shows the heartbreaking reality of what happens to unvaccinated and unprotected puppies exposed to distemper. It is likely the puppies began showing symptoms of distemper, and the family decided to get rid of the little ones.

All seven puppies remain in critical condition. Five out of the seven have exhibited full blown seizures/neurological episodes. All of the puppies are dehydrated and infested with internal parasites. Some of the puppies are showing respiratory and gastrointestinal distress. It is suspected the entire litter of puppies are showing advanced stages of the distemper virus.

There is no cure for canine distemper infection. Many puppies survive distemper virus, but not without a fight that includes expensive veterinary care most dog owners may be unable to afford. Indeed, it can cost hundreds, if not many thousands of dollars to treat distemper successfully. And even then, a severe case may succumb despite the most valiant efforts.

Multiply this times seven critically ill puppies and hopefully share with friends, family and social media contacts to help Dallas Dog Rescue. Rehab. Reform.
