In Tujunga, California, an elderly man who could barely care for himself knew it was time to surrender his dog no matter how much he loved her. Although animal advocates don’t want to see any dogs in the shelter, the ailing man made the right choice.

His note to the shelter left everyone in tears:

“It is with a heavy heart that I do hereby surrender Puppy Dog to the East San Fernando Valley Animal Shelter on March 17, 2021. Her companionship will be sorely missed and it is my wish that she be treated with all the love and respect she gave me during our time together. The idea of her waiting for me to come back to get her is very sad. Please tell her I loved her very much.

Respectfully yours,”

Puppy Dog has some medical issues and recently went blind. Her advocate sings her praises as a very sweet dog who is fine with children and cats, however Puppy Dog doesn’t do well with other dogs. Her medical notes include the following:

  • Very red gingival tissue severe dental tartar
  • Left eye appears slightly sunken; both eyes have cataracts and appears to be blind
  • Very unsure of herself when walking and bumped into walls searching for her water bowl
  • Both stifles decreased proprioception in the left rear leg multiple tumors
  • Masses along the right flank, right hip et al
  • Left flank masses
  • History of seizures

Sadly, Puppy Dog has been listed “Orange” and if she isn’t rescued by March 24, the shelter will consider euthanasia.

Yes, Puppy Dog’s rescue is a long shot, but sharing with approved rescues, family, friends and social media contacts via social media has resulted in happy news and some of the most unexpected acts of kindness. Whether Puppy Dog has a day, a week, months or longer, doesn’t this dog deserve the best in a loving hospice home – a soft bed, lots of soft pets and love and the best foods. Can you help?

PetHarbor adoption listing: Puppy Dog #A1917371

  1. This is a heartbreaking situation. When my parents were alive, I was able to help them with their dogs. My husband and I promised them that we would care for their dogs if at any time they weren’t able to care for them.
Not everyone is fortunate enough to have family or close friends who can take over the care for their companion animals…….
Let’s hope that this precious treasure can be rescued!!! She deserves to be in a loving furever family where she will be treated as a beloved family member!!!

  2. CANT WE SOMEHOW HELP THEM BOTH? HOW ABOUT DONATIONS, A GO FUND ME PAGE, PETITION OR ALL OF THESE?

PLEASE EMAIL ME IF I CAN HELP!

  3. I just saw Puppy Dog’s story and knew I had to share it in the hopes she finds a family to love her as much as that sweet dear old soul who is known as her former owner loved her. She needs a chance and deserves a chance. I was in tears reading his words to the shelter and their staff. I so wish I could be the one to give her the same kinda love and home she had with him. But I’m at my limit with 3 dogs. I am praying so hard and will continue until I hopefully see or hear a positive outcome for this beautiful girl. I wish I could hug her and give her love and spend some time with her just so she’d know her daddy didn’t walk away and forget her. And so she’d know how much she is still wanted and loved. But I live in Florida so paying her a visit is not possible. God bless her loving owner and God bless Puppy dog. ♥️♥️♥️???
