Dogs who visited a San Francisco, California, park have gotten sick after ingesting toxic drugs. According to San Francisco Animal Care and Control, the dogs who get sick frequently have ingested human waste, from people who have taken drugs and left feces in open areas.

One puppy, a Maltipoo named Oliver, got sick after visiting Lafayette Park with his owner. At the veterinarian, it was determined that Oliver had consumed amphetamines and methadone. Though the substances made Oliver quite ill, the veterinary intervention managed to pull him through. His owner, Camille Perez, told ABC 7 News, “It was really scary. He made it through though. He did,” adding, “The possibility of such heavy-duty drugs never entered my mind.”

Another dog ingested an edible at the same park – that dog became “almost catatonic” and required veterinary intervention as well. Another pup, a Miniature Pinscher named Max, got sick and had to be hospitalized after consuming marijuana in the same area.

These cases are a sad reminder that pet owners must remain vigilant while visiting any outdoor area and watch for signs of toxicity and seek veterinary help as soon as possible if symptoms arise.
