Thanks to a vigorous investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office – Proactive Auto Theft Unit, there was an emotional reunion for Danny Thomason, 75, and his five-year-old Boston terrier named Yogi. The two had been inseparable since the day Yogi arrived as a puppy.

On Christmas Day in Spring, Texas, thieves took the dog from a car inside of a gas station near Imperial Valley Drive. Danny had pulled up at the gas station and just for a moment left Yogi in the car with the windows open to keep him cool. By the time he paid for his gas and walked out, Yogi was gone.

According to the HCSO social media page, Thomason and his family searched for the dog including reporting the distressing incident to the Harris County’s Sheriff’s Office.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office – Proactive Auto Theft Unit investigated a theft of a dog from a car that happened on Christmas Day. A vigorous investigation led to the location and recovery of the dog. The dog was reunited with the owner, who shed tears of joy. This is community service at its best. We understand the pain of losing a pet, nice to see our team members go above and beyond like this to get a positive result.

The awful beginning of Christmas turned into a blessing when Thomason and Yogi were reunited. Deputies followed a lead to a nearby home where they found the dog. Charges are expected to be filed.

Great work deputies! You make our lives better and safer.
