Dog who faced imminent death still waits to be adopted after seven long years

In a Bosnian shelter, five puppies were about to be put to sleep when they were miraculously rescued by Saving Suffering Strays. When the puppies arrived at the shelter, they were terrified. All the puppies quickly found homes, but Peter was overlooked. Sadly, he lost a lot of time at socialization which made it even more difficult to find him a home.

The story of these five puppies dates back to 2014, but seven years later Peter still hasn’t been adopted. And the more time Peter has spent at the shelter, the sadder he has become.

Peter has always been a bit anxious around people which likely precluded families from wanting to bring him home, and despite the great affection everyone had for him at Saving Suffering Strays, it was time a new solution needed to be found to help Peter find the loving home he so deserves.

“Peter was saved from certain death in Sarajevo by Milena Malesevic back in 2104. All his litter mates were rehomed but no-one wanted poor Peter in 7 years. So tomorrow, with the help of our friends at Saving Suffering Strays he’s getting on the happy bus to come to us. Because we want you Peter! Peter is so lucky to have been well cared for in Bosnia, and by taking him in makes space for another desperate dog over there. We expect him to need a bit of rehabilitation time before he’s ready to find his forever home…”

And so it was decided to send Peter to Dogs 4 Rescue, along with a few other dogs needing specialized care; a place where anxious dogs learn to relax. The cage-free environment helps to bring the shy dogs out of their shells and make new friends without any pressure. The relaxed environment helps to decompress the pups and helps them to trust again.

“The Bosnian happy bus arrives tomorrow with five newbies. Peter went to see a Bosnian barber before he left to look his best and apparently this look is all the rage over there. Well he is moving to warmer climes…”
