A dog found trying to keep his deceased owner warm in a snowstorm in California has been adopted. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office recounted the sad situation involving the dog and his owner earlier this month, writing, in part:

David became stranded several days earlier while driving through the extreme storm that pummeled through the Foothills and the Sierra-Nevada. David tried to walk back to his home with his two dogs – ten-year old “Buddy” and five-year old “Baby Dog” – unfortunately, David didn’t make it home. When PCSO deputies and Search and Rescue crews found him, Buddy and Baby Dog were both at his side; the dogs wouldn’t let anyone near David.

Adding:

Buddy’s and Baby Dog’s loyalty never wavered, even until the very end. Shona says she is unable to care for the two dogs, who are heartbroken and grieving her father’s loss.

As reported by Yahoo News, Lisa Lomeli is neighbors with the deceased man’s daughter, and she knew about the tragic situation, and Baby Dog’s faithful personality. She thought that the homeless dog might be a great match for her mother, Peggy Morrill. MSN shared Lomeli’s comments about her mom’s desire for a new companion:

“My mom has been going through cancer for a year and is just finishing up chemo and lost her lab a year ago and is very lonely. My Mom said to me, ‘I said a prayer and I know I’m supposed to have another dog. That dog will find me.'”

So far, it appears to be the perfect match. Yahoo News shared Lomeli’s update about Baby Dog’s new home:

“My mom said he’s been amazing already. He’s never had an accident in the house. He learned how to use the dog door. He plays ball and has little places in their house where he likes to sleep. He just fit perfectly.”

The other dog, Buddy, has also been adopted to a wonderful new family who promises to spoil him for the rest of his life.
