In the midst of an unprecedented heatwave in the Pacific northwest, a dog died after getting stuck beneath a dock in Multnomah County, Oregon. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Tweeted a warning to pet owners after trying to save the young dog on Saturday morning.

The authorities Tweeted:

Tough call this morning. A dog drowned after getting caught under a dock. Deputies used a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) to recover the body. The dog was a two year old mixed breed. As a reminder, when visiting rivers or lakes, take precautions and be mindful of your pets too.

According to multiple sources, the dog was in the water at Zosa Beach near Oaks Park.

People, and dogs, have been seeking out water as a respite from the extreme temperatures plaguing the area. Several drownings in Washington and Oregon have been reported.

Please stay safe as you try to stay cool..
