In a disturbing viral video in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a man was spotted on Thursday abusing his small dog. Witnesses at the Winrock Mall saw the man kick, choke and then swing the defenseless pooch around by its leash outside of Chuz Fitness.
According to KrqeNews, witnesses stated they had been leaving the gym when they spotted the man dragging the tiny dog.
“The entire time, he is dragging the dog along and kicking it in the face. It was 30 minutes or so that he was abusing his dog publicly like this was normal,” one witness told the news team.
A Good Samaritan called the Albuquerque Police Department, and an officer from the Animal Welfare division interviewed the dog owner who claimed it had been the first time he had ever taken the dog outside on a leash to walk. The man also contended the dog is accustomed to running free.
Police did not take the dog, and even after viewing the video returned the dog back to his owner stating there was nothing they could legally do. The owner was issued four citations by the Animal Welfare officer who gave the man instructions on how to properly handle a dog.
