A video recently shared on social media has gone viral, but for none of the positive reasons. This particular disturbing video shows a teenage girl apparently forcing a quokka to smoke an e-cigarette on West Australia’s Rottnest Island.

In case you are unfamiliar with a guokka, the cat-sized short-tailed scrub wallaby has been nicknamed the “happiest creature on earth,” and so it becomes even more egregious to take advantage and harm this innocent animal. The marsupials are really very vulnerable because they have become accustomed to human interaction.

“It’s completely and utterly irresponsible and unacceptable for this poor defenseless, vulnerable animal to be subjected to that kind of cruelty.”

RSPCA WA’s Hannah Dreaver

Viewing the video seems to give the impression the quokka thinks it is being fed a treat as the girl tries to force the vaping pen down the animal’s throat.

The teens behind this latest video could be charged with animal cruelty which carries a maximum penalty of five years in jail and a $50,000 fine. Anyone with information is asked to contact the RSPCA.
