The Humane Society of Highlands County rescued an exhausted dog that had been wandering the Lake Placid area for more than a week with a plastic jug over his head; making it nearly impossible for him to either drink or eat.

According to the shelter’s Facebook page, Lt. Clay Kinslow and his crew spent four hours searching for the dog on Tuesday evening and two hours this morning – they finally were able to spot him and used a tranquilizer dart to catch the skittish pup.

Extremely skinny, filthy and utterly defeated, local veterinarian, Dr. Stewart was on premises to assess the dog’s health.

He is confused and very sad. It is hoped once he is fully awake he remains as sweet as he has so far demonstrated. Staff will be bathing him, and feeding him when he is ready.
