A puppy perished in a historic cold snap gripping much of Texas. The Grapeland Police Department issued a release about the animal cruelty case which was discovered on Valentine’s Day. The authorities recounted the tragic details:
On scene Officers located 4 horses, 4 living dogs, and one deceased puppy, approximately 12 weeks of age. The puppy was found frozen, locked in a wire crate, in the back yard of the residence.
According to the police, the four surviving dogs were chained outside, without shelter, and they were covered in ice. The neglect was not directed at just the dogs – the authorities said:
Two of the four horses found were tethered in the yard by leads approximately 4 foot in length. The other two horses were found in a small pen near by. All horses were also removed. Out of all nine animals located on the property not a single one had food or water.
Animal cruelty charges have been filed against the owner of the animals. The names were not included in the release from the police department.
