This week, a Florida man was arrested and charged following the discovery of a dead dog’s body, wrapped in a blanket with bricks, in the water in Key West. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office issued a release about the incident, writing:

A 37-year-old man was arrested Monday following an investigation after a dead dog was found in the water tied up in a blanket in Key West.
Alexander Eric Vargas of Stock Island was charged with cruelty to animals and unlawful disposal of a dead animal.

The deceased dog was found at Little Hamaca Park. The release provides details about the dog that was discovered:

An adult, gray, male pit bull was found wrapped in a thin blanket tied at the top. The blanket was in shallow water. There were three bricks inside the blanket as well as the dog.

Investigators determined that Vargas had left the dog inside of a delivery box truck at Higgs Beach. The truck had no ventilation and the dog was dead by the time that Vargas returned to the vehicle. When questioned, Vargas admitted that he had left the dog at Little Hamaca Park.

Vargas was booked into jail on Monday.
