The Jefferson Police Department IA responded to a dog attack on Monday afternoon. When authorities arrived, they met with a woman who had been walking her Boston terrier on a leash when two off-leash German shepherds approached and began attacking the small dog.

According to 1380kcim, at the same time the two shepherds approached the woman with the small dog, four other dogs ran towards her with a man chasing them.

By the time authorities arrived, the terrier was dead. The two German shepherds, owned by Larry Jon Hovick, were deemed “illegal animals” under city code following the attack. Hovick was ordered to remove the dogs from the city limits or euthanized. The dogs were then transported to a new location.

Hovick has been cited with six counts of animals running at large. All of the dogs were current on their rabies vaccinations.

Rest in peace little one. You died because of pure carelessness on the side of the dogs’ owner.
