Talk about seeing something strange and wondering if it’s real? On Sunday, a man had to pinch himself when he looked out the window and spotted a Bengal tiger walking across his front yard.

According to CNN, the nine-month-old cub was last seen on Sunday. Shortly after the sighting, a man came out of a nearby home, straddled and grabbed the tiger and put him in his SUV and drove off. Police identified the man as Victor Hugo Cuevas, 26, who is out of bond after being charged in the fatal shooting of a man in 2017.

An off-duty deputy who spotted the tiger kept his gun pointed at the tiger but did not shoot. He kept eye contact with the wild cat and slowly backed away. Had he started to run, the tiger’s natural instinct may have kicked in and likely would have chased the man.

The tiger, named India does not belong to Cuevas, and when Cuevas was arrested after fleeing, the “whereabouts of the tiger are not yet known.” Animal Control officers from the local shelter are involved trying to find the tiger.

The Houston Police have not released much information about India, but owning a tiger is against the law in Houston, however it is legal under Texas state law with certain restrictions.

There has been an offer from a sanctuary to help out once the tiger is found. The Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch in Murchison, Texas would gladly welcome the cat.

Just another day in Houston?
