He’s melted hearts since the internet first met him, and his Instagram account has 586,000 followers. The German shepherd and border collie mix continues his training as a therapy dog, and who with any disability couldn’t empathize or associate with Brodie?

When Brodie was just 13 days old, he was attacked by his mother and was left partially paralyzed with permanent damage to his face. Fortunately, Brodie survived, and because dogs are so forgiving and don’t really give much thought to mirrors, his future is bright and he remains a rising star. Tragically, the puppy had suffered severe cranial and facial injuries, and as he developed, his jaw fused together – leaving his face tilted and resulting in partial blindness in one eye. Still, Brodie’s beauty and uniqueness shine.

Amanda Richter and Brad Ames became Brodie’s family as the dog continues his training as a therapy pup helping others who have disabilities. The couple had spotted the puppy’s photos online and adopted him from the shelter.

In an interview with Metro, Amanda and Brad felt drawn to the puppy who had been five-months-old at the time.

“We met him, took him for a walk and hung out with him for a few hours and ended up bringing him home the same day because the rescue really felt we were a great fit. He’s definitely hyper but he is so intelligent. His brain is perfectly fine and he learns tricks within 10 minutes usually which tells me he is a smart boy. He just needed patience and someone to be consistent. He gets better every week.”

The couple use Brodie’s fame to raise awareness for other special needs dogs and to show people that it’s totally fine to be different.

Brodie is now two-years-old, and his humans tell us he “looks a bit like a Picasso masterpiece.” We think he’s just perfect!
