Update 8/20/2021: Fletcher has been adopted!

A beautiful, young German shepherd is begging for attention from behind the bars of his kennel run at a struggling animal shelter that is completely full. The dog, named Fletcher, has been at the Pasadena Animal Care and Control in Texas since July 13, and he desperately needs help.

On Wednesday, the Pasadena Animal Shelter Facebook page wrote:

When I passed his kennel yesterday, Fletcher stood on his hind legs and trembled and cried. He kissed the chain link of the kennel door so many times that he nearly made me cry. I stopped to pet him, but there wasn’t time to do much more. 💔 The next dog was pressing himself against the kennel, making sure I stopped to pet him, too. And so on, down a long row of kennels where dogs continue howling so they’re not forgotten.

Describing the sad situation:

They’re desperate. We’re desperate. They deserve so much better than this. If you can’t adopt, please foster while we make arrangements for them to leave on transport. These dogs need out of the Houston area and out of Texas altogether. Fletcher (A155448) is a two-year-old German Shepherd. And he’s just one of dozens of shepherds currently in our full shelter.

Imagine Fletcher’s sadness and frustration – all he wants is to get out of his kennel run and to love and be loved. But he, and all of the other homeless dogs at this facility, are caught in a terrible version of ground hog day as they wait for someone to come along and help them.

Please share Fletcher’s adoption information and help him find a home, before it’s too late.

From the shelter:

We’re currently waiving adoption and impoundment fees. Also, please note that 98% of our dogs are considered “big” (defined as 40+ pounds), so if you’re looking for a little dog, this isn’t the place to find one. (That miniature poodle that people have called about repeatedly? Adopted. Those kinds of dogs are always adopted quickly.) It’s our big dogs, like our German Shepherds, Pitties, Huskies, and Labs that are in desperate need.
Our Adoption Center is open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. today. It’s most effective to visit in person. We will process adoption and foster applications immediately on-site.
If you have a question, please email us. We do not respond to comments on social media (per city policy), and our phones are flooded with calls about one or two dogs while staff is busy trying to help the other 160 dogs.
We appreciate your support.
