At 13 years of age, a German shepherd named Macho was surrendered to a busy animal control facility in Los Angeles County. Less than 24 hours ago, the Saving Carson Shelter Dogs Facebook page posted an image of the elderly dog, and wrote a plea for help:

Hi all, we are requesting your assistance in placing Macho- A 5427868 a 13 year old, intact male German Shepherd, that presented with lameness and underweight. He has x-rays from private vet indicating disc disease (narrowed disc space along his back). This can often times be treated with steroid therapy, cage rest and pain control.

Adding:

He has been started on prednisone and pain control as well as extra feedings. He will be monitored for improvement. It is recommended he go out to medical foster/rescue as he will have a better chance at recovery NOT in a shelter environment.

It’s hard to imagine that anyone could leave their senior dog at a shelter…but unfortunately it happens. Please help find a rescue group to take Macho in – he deserves to know love and kindness in the time that he has left.

#A5427868 I’m an approximately 13 year old male German Shepherd. I am not yet neutered. I have been at the Carson Animal Care Center since 7/7.

  1. Absolutely disgusting and heartbreaking!!! Do these POS owners honestly think that there’s a long line of potential adopters for a frail, elderly furbaby???
Most people are thrilled with their elderly furbabies (& want them to be part of their families forever)!!!
One shouldn’t dump an elderly furbaby when they need their families’ love and support the most…. After the furbaby has given the family all their love for their entire life……
These POS owners have shown their family how to treat them when they are themselves old and frail: dump them into the nastiest senior center possible!!! WTG
