In Springdale, Arkansas, Leonardo Barboza faces animal cruelty charges for dragging his two dogs behind an SUV. Barboza claims he was “just walking them.”

An officer from the Springdale Police Department spotted the “large SUV” drive past him on Thursday with two dogs being dragged by a rope. According to FoxNews, one of the dogs, a husky, was fighting against the SUV. The other dog appeared to have broken free from the rope and had been following behind the vehicle.

As Officer Ricardo Rojo approached Barboza, and asked him what he was doing with the dogs, the driver of the vehicle allegedly told the officer he had “just been walking them.”

The husky was observed to have been limping, and all four of his paws were badly injured. The other dog had evidence of previous injuries. Both dogs have been seized and currently remain in the care of Springdale Animal Control.

Barboza was arrested and posted $1,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on October 19, 2021.
