In Phoenix, Arizona, the man who severely abused his little dog was sentenced to 120 days in jail on Wednesday and will be banned from owning any animals for the next three years. Netzer Villagomez pled guilty to Class 5 animal cruelty.
According to the Arizona Humane Society, Miso was discovered in September 2019 on the side of the road suffering from critical injuries. He was taken to the organization’s trauma hospital where he was diagnosed with fractured ribs, a fractured pelvis and a fractured tooth. Additional bloodwork found elevated liver values consistent with severe injuries.
This is the first AHS animal abuse case under HB2671 which strengthens the state’s animal cruelty laws and ensures punishment for the most heinous acts of animal cruelty. In addition to jail time, Miso’s abuser will now also have to pay thousands of dollars in restitution to AHS, complete community service, undergo a mental health assessment and anger management. He will also be banned from owning any animals for the duration of his probation.
Miso fully recovered and now lives in a loving home.
The Arizona Humane Society cruelty investigators responded to more than 6,200 calls of suspected cases last year.
