The Tunica Humane Society in Tunica, Mississippi shared a most endearing story of adoption on Wednesday – one that is so touching and re-shareworthy, we just couldn’t miss the opportunity to bring smiles to everyone reading this beautiful Thanksgiving Day message.
Eric and Tonia Whalen are from Wisconsin and three years ago had adopted two senior dogs from the rescue organization. Thanks to their exceptional care, those dogs are all doing well.
How exciting everyone from the THS became when this same compassionate couple reached out again and offered to open their hearts and their home once again to another senior at the rescue. We all know how difficult a task it is to find loving homes for senior dogs – it’s so often all about the puppies.
On their updated application, Eric wrote,
“…any old forgotten dog will do.”Eric Whalen application to adopt a dog
And when the stars and the moon seem to align perfectly, so it happened that Champ and another dog had been found abandoned on a property in Philadelphia, Mississippi exactly one week ago. For their entire lives, the dogs appeared to have been neglected and then thrown away like trash. Tragically, the other dog died the next day, and Champ was transported to the organization’s partner veterinarian for evaluation.
“Turns out he is the most precious dog. A little ragged on the exterior but a heart as huge as Texas. His teeth were worn to the gums, a good bit of his fur is missing, he’s got heartworms and some other minor stuff but that didn’t stop Eric and Tonia from saying, ‘Champ is perfect’ – Just what we were looking for to complete our family.'”Facebook THS
And later in the day a volunteer drove Champ to Illinois where he was met with open arms by his new humans.
“Champs was born again today. And it was beautiful.”Facebook THs
Please share Champ’s story – seniors deserve loving homes too.
