Police in Pasco, Washington, discovered starving and sick animals at a Tri-Cities animal shelter on Thursday while investigating a tip about possible neglect at the facility. As reported by KOMO News, the authorities found four “malnourished” dogs and 30 cats suffering from severe illness.
An outbuilding with an additional 40-50 cats was also discovered. All of the animals were transferred to the care of the Benton Franklin Humane Society.
The Tri-Cities Animal Shelter was already facing scrutiny following allegations that the person heading up the non-profit, which runs the shelter, allegedly stole donated funds for her personal use. As reported by the Tri-Cities Herald, Julie Chambers allegedly used $300,000 of donated funds to purchase a home for herself. Chambers is facing two felony charges for first-degree theft, and money laundering, in Franklin County Superior Court.

It just ticks me off when I read how people steal from the animals they are suppose to help. Because it makes it harder for people like me to get donations even for just cat food, which is all I usually ask for. I hope they throw the book at her and she goes to jail….
