Scarface, the 14-year-old lion died peacefully on Friday at Kenya’s Maasai Mara Game Reserve. The magnificent lion died peacefully.

“At 1 pm local time, Scarface took his last breath. He died in peace with any disturbance from vehicles and hyenas. We were the only vehicle on the scene and by his side, hoping to give him any kind of comfort,” reported the Mara Predator Conservation Programme.

“The Mara has lost yet another one of its great iconic males. May his legend forever live on.”

According to World Heritage Species, Scarface had been sighted and appeared to be very thin. His left hindleg which had always compensated for his damage right hindleg had been giving out on him, and his future was unknown. For years, Scarface had been a popular sighting among tourists who visited the preserve and went on photographic safari trips.

The Maasai Mara connected to the Serengeti National Park is one of the most spectacular ecosystems known for nearly 900 lions, African leopards, cheetah and African elephants. In addition, there are also rare black and white rhinos.

Rest in peace Scarface.
