In the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, in the small village of Saristal, a baby was heard crying by a group of villagers “heading out for their daily chores.” As they approached, the naked child still had her umbilical cord attached and had been cuddled up with a mother dog and her litter of puppies.

According to the Daily Mail, the newborn, who has since been named Akanksha, likely had been kept warm by the puppies and their mother since temperatures dip at night in December. The villagers immediately contacted the health department who promptly arrived and took the infant to a nearby hospital.

Akanksha has been referred to the Childline Project where she will be cared for in an approved foster home while an investigation is launched to find her parents.

They are not parents, they are criminals. It is a miracle only to find newborn baby surviving when stray dogs are lurking every now and them at the dead of the night…”

Local neighbor commenting to the press.

And again, it seems that dogs are our best friends. Let’s hope this mother dog and her puppies are also being cared for now too.
