In a countryside field in Karditsa, Greece, volunteers with the Diasozo Animal Rescue Team, were alerted to an abandoned dog in horrible shape just lying in a deserted area. A rescuer found the emaciated dog and immediately noted an infected wound on her back; the dog needed emergency veterinary care.

Now named Lydia, the rescuers lifted her up, wrapped her in a blanket and placed her in a kennel cage in the back of their vehicle. Once at the hospital, Lydia slowly exited the cage and began to explore her new surroundings. She limped around, but never uttered a complaint.

Lydia’s injuries were heartbreaking. In addition to the large infected wound on her back, she also had an injury on her leg where it had been broken and painfully cut through her skin.

The sweet dog slowly regained some of her strength and enjoyed exploring her surroundings, and soon it was time to move to a foster home where she could receive more attention and heal both mentally and physically.

The ending, thankfully, is a happy one and you can see Gianna and I deliver her to her foster home where she’ll continue her recovery, and who knows, may just have found her forever home (fingers crossed!).
