While dog lovers were celebrating National Dog Day on Thursday, someone abandoned a sweet dog in Caloosa Park in Boynton Beach, Florida. A park employee found the dog on Friday morning lying on three blankets near the edge of a pond lined with caution signs warning visitors of the potential presence of alligators.

According to the Boynton Beach Police, there was no food or water left for the senior dog. When Boynton Beach Police Animal Cruelty Investigator Liz Roehrich arrived, she found the dog unable to walk, had a large mass on his shoulder, suffered from severe skin issues, hair loss, overgrown nails and other health issues. The dog was not wearing a collar nor was he microchipped; the loss of hair around his neck indicated he had previously worn a collar.

Tragically, whoever decided to abandon him, left him in an area without trees or shade, unable to escape the recent lightning and thunderstorm.

The dog was transported to Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control where he was examined by a veterinarian and subsequently humanely euthanized to end his suffering.

Police are asking anyone who recognizes this dog or has information about his owner to call Inv. Roehrich at 561-742-6210 or Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at 800-458-TIPS. Information can also be submitted via the website, www.bbpd.org, or MyPD app. You can remain anonymous.

Please help this poor dog find some justice.
