An elderly, blind dog is in need of some assistance to leave a Washington animal shelter. The 13-year-old dog, named Athena, is located in Republic, WA, and she could use a helping hand to find her forever home.

On Thursday, Old Dog Haven made a Facebook post on Athena’s behalf, writing:

This wonderful girl needs our help in shares! Will you help Athena leave the shelter to go to an adoptive home? Thank you Friends.

Adding details about the senior dog:

Athena is a sweet girl who transferred over to Forget Me Not Animal
Shelter from another shelter so she could enjoy life in a foster home
until her forever home finds her. She is almost 13 and is blind.

And information about her blindness and health:

She has had a full specialty check-up at Animal Eye Clinic of Spokane, which
confirmed progressive retinal atrophy and secondary cataracts, with no
hope of surgical improvement. Athena’s only medication is Diclofenac,
eye drops which she gets once daily to regulate inflammation in her eyes
as a proactive prevention for glaucoma. These meds should run around
$25-$30 per month. She should have her intraocular pressure checked
every 6 months to be safe.

Her geriatric blood panel showed no conditions that cause concern; other
than blindness, she is a healthy, happy senior looking for a wonderful
last few years of life with a loving family.

Athena is described as a dog-friendly girl who is leash and house-trained, and enjoys going for car rides.

You can find Athena’s adoption listing here.
